GLOBALSOM LIMITED, a fully owned subsidiary of Sommarine, was established in June 2024 in Kismayo, Jubaland, following a strategic decision by Sommarine’s Board of Directors. As Sommarine, a leading boat manufacturing company, continued to innovate and produce high-quality fishing vessels, the Board identified a critical need to expand the company’s operations into the fishing sector itself. In response to this need, the board decided to establish GLOBALSOM LIMITED, a company dedicated to fishing operations using the vessels produced by Sommarine.
The aim was to create a vertically integrated business model that would not only manufacture boats but also deploy them in large-scale fishing activities. This strategic move was aimed at capitalizing on the rich marine resources along Somalia’s coastline, ensuring that the boats built by Sommarine would be deployed in a manner that maximized their capabilities and contributed to the broader goals of economic development and food security in the region. The Board saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between boat production and fishing operations, thereby enhancing the utility of Sommarine’s boats and driving further economic growth.

This strategy marks a significant expansion of Sommarine’s business model, transforming it from a boat manufacturer into a comprehensive maritime enterprise, allowing the company to control the entire value chain—from boat manufacturing to the end product of harvested fish. This integrated approach not only solidifies Sommarine’s market presence but also contributes to local economic development by creating jobs, enhancing food security, and fostering sustainable fishing practices in the region. Through this subsidiary, Sommarine now controls the entire value chain from boat production to fish harvesting, positioning the company as a key player in the development of Somalia’s fishing industry
